Typically found in a basement or lower level, a man cave offers a lot of entertainment in the home. However, along with invited friends and family members in the man cave, you may also have unwanted guests in the form of rodents and bugs. The naturally dark and cool setting of a basement is ideal for many types of pests and dealing with any of them may ruin your man-cave experience.

By taking steps yourself, you can help prevent any unwanted guests getting into the man cave, and the methods you use will also help prevent the same pests from invading the rest of your home. Learn about various products and different ways to use them around a basement-based man cave.

Bait Traps

A basement-dwelling man cave features windows placed near the ground level. Windows may let a lot of natural light into the man cave, but they can also offer an easy way for pests and bugs to access the room. Focus on the basement windows to prevent an open door policy for these bugs to come and go as they please.

One treatment for both the interior and exterior of the window areas is to place bait traps along the edges of the window. Bait traps come in many different forms and focus on a variety of animals. For example, you may want a bait trap for ants on the inside and a bait trap for rodents on the outside of the window.

One of the main benefits of using bait traps is that when animals and insects bring the baits back to nests to help kill off other parts of the family or colony.

Rodent Traps and Glue Boards

A basement is an ideal dwelling place for rodents like rats and mice. The small creatures easily find ways to crawl through walls and vents. Small areas and openings become a gateway for rodents to enter your man cave.

In a man cave, rodents may target specific elements traditionally found in these rooms. Paper products like electronic manuals and magazines may get chewed on as the mice seek out nest material. Rodents are also known to chew all types of wires. One of the main reasons for the constant chewing is to help trim their teeth and keep them from growing too long.

Your TV connections, sound systems, and gaming systems may all be compromised if rodents have access to the cords. Not only can your electronics be ruined, but exposed electrical wiring may pose a fire risk.

The best way to capture rodents and get them out of your man cave area is with a variety of traps. If you're not comfortable setting and retrieving mousetraps, then consider the use of glue traps. Glue traps are small, can fit into tight spaces, and will easily trap a variety of rodents.

Pesticide Dust

While using your man cave, the last thing you want to deal with is flying pests like bees, hornets, and wasps. The siding on your house or any type of wood structure can easily turn into a nesting place for these insects.

Kill off wasps, hornets, and other flying pests with the use of pesticide dust like Apicide dust. Sprinkle the dust around the exterior of your man cave area. Add pesticide dust to any gaps, holes, or openings near the siding of your home. The flying pests will take the dust, bring it back to their colony, and help kill off full nests so you do not have to worry about them.
